When she got the phone call that her estranged mother had died, she was tempted to just hang up. But there was at least some tug of duty, if just to sign off on the cremation and sort through whatever belongings she had left. So she went.
After a day of tasks that no one wants to do, especially not for a mother you haven't even heard from in over a decade, Kim is worn out, but too tense to go back to her hotel room and nap. So she finds herself at the mall. She wanders through, looking at the stores, remembering the times her mother shoplifted and taught her how to do the same.
She stops by a Jamba Juice for a drink. She's sipping that as she wanders by a Cinnabon. She hasn't eaten all day, and they smell good, so she goes in and gets in line.]
